South Korean tech giant Samsung on Monday announced the new Galaxy Tab Active3, a ruggedized tablet for businesses with increased emphasis on improving employee productivity and safety.

The new Galaxy Tab Active3 comes with performance and productivity features that are perfect for field-based employees. It also includes capabilities like Touch Sensitivity to help professionals, like first responders, who use gloves for working safely in the most challenging environments and conditions.

“The way the world does business is rapidly changing as we move away from the office and out into the field. When developing the new Galaxy Tab Active3 we listened to feedback from our customers and partners and focused on creating a product that would make it easier to get things done. Not only is the Galaxy Tab Active3 more durable, but its performance has been upgraded to support the latest applications for maximum productivity,” said KC Choi, EVP and Head of Global Mobile B2B Team, Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics.

The Tab Active3 features an 8.0-inch WXGA display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels, although it’s still a TFT LCD panel. It is equipped with the powerful Exynos 9810 processor, and in terms of graphics, you get Mali G72MP18 GPU.

Further, the tablet supports 4GB of RAM and up to 128GB internal storage, which can be further expanded through a microSD card.

On the camera front, the 13MP rear camera with LED flash provides perfect clarity for both taking pictures or scanning detailed documents. In addition, the 5MP front camera is ideally suited for selfies and video or conference calls.

The USB Type-C port has also been upgraded to USB 3.1 Gen 1. Additionally, the battery capacity of the Tab Active3 has been increased up to 5,050mAh, which supports fast charging through the USB and POGO pins. It now supports “No Battery Mode” for battery-less power.

Galaxy Tab Active3 is optimized for camera-based barcode scanning to help retailers easily manage inventory and scan products for purchase. It also supports NFC with EMV Level 1 for payment.

Samsung has provided support for Google’s AR Core technology, which enables new augmented reality (AR) services, such as remote training. Also, Samsung Dex is now available on the Tab Active3 for a desktop-like experience, ensuring dual-screen functionality so tasks can be picked up from anywhere, whether in the office or in the field.

The Galaxy Tab Active 3 has an active key on the side of the device that allows instant access to the apps or programs used most often, emergency calls, scanning or Push to Talk and much more.

The tablet features MIL-STD-810H certification for durability making it survive the most extreme environments. Its enhanced shock absorption can withstand drops of up to 1.5 meters with an inbox protective cover. The device also has an IPS68 certified S pen making it water and dust resistant.

The Galaxy Tab Active 3 supports up to three generations of Android OS upgrades. It ships with Android 10 out of the box and is protected by Samsung Knox as well as regular Android security updates.

Starting September 28, the new Galaxy Tab Active 3 is available in select markets, including but not limited to Europe and Asia, with availability expanding to other regions at a later date. There is as an LTE model as well as a Wi-Fi-only version (with Wi-Fi 6 connectivity). Samsung hasn’t yet shared pricing information for the tablet.
