  • Samsung has announced the Galaxy A42 5G, its latest mid-range 5G device.
  • The phone features a large 5,000mAh battery and quad cameras.
  • It’ll be available later this year.

Update: September 4, 2020 (1:40 AM ET): We now know a bit more about the Samsung Galaxy A42 5G thanks to a press release put out by Samsung Germany.

For starters, Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy A42 5G will cost €369 (~$437) when it releases in Europe in November. This makes it cheaper than the current lowest-priced Samsung 5G phone — the Galaxy A51 5G — which starts at $500.

Samsung has also revealed a few more specs for the the Galaxy A42 5G. It packs a 5,000mAh battery, and its quad-camera setup consists of a 48MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide camera, a 5MP macro lens, and a 5MP depth camera. There’s a 20MP selfie shooter upfront.

We still don’t know what processor it uses or how much storage and RAM it’ll have. There’s also no word on a US release date or price. We’ll update this article when we have more information.

Original article: September 2, 2020 (5:41 AM ET): Samsung has done its part to reduce the barrier of entry to 5G this year, releasing the Galaxy A51 5G and A71 5G as its mid-range 5G offerings. Now, the company has confirmed that one more mid-range device is coming in the Samsung Galaxy A42 5G.

Announced at its Unpacked Part 2 event yesterday (September 1), the firm didn’t dish out many details regarding the new phone. However, Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy A42 5G offers a quad rear camera setup and a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED screen.

The firm also dished out press images showing off the new phone, and we can see a rather unique back cover with a textured pattern covering three quarters of the panel. Otherwise, you’re also looking at a phone with a waterdrop notch rather than a punch-hole cutout seen on Samsung’s other mid-range 5G devices.

Samsung says the new phone is coming “later this year,” with pricing and other details (e.g., specs and availability) yet to be revealed. Nevertheless, we’re expecting a cheaper price than the Galaxy A51 5G, given that the new phone’s name suggests it’s lower on the totem pole.

It wasn’t the only Samsung device to be quietly announced yesterday either, as the firm also revealed the Galaxy Tab A7 and Galaxy Fit 2. Check out the devices in the gallery below.

As is the case with the Galaxy A42 5G, Samsung didn’t have much to say about these devices. The company confirmed a 10.4-inch screen, 80% screen/body ratio, metal design, and quad Dolby Atmos speakers for the Galaxy Tab A7. Meanwhile, Samsung says the Galaxy Fit 2 offers 15-21 days of juice, 70 different face options, and features tracking for up to five different types of activities.

Samsung hasn’t revealed pricing, availability, and additional specs for these two gadgets either, but we’ll share any additional information as soon as we get it. In the meantime, you can check out our hands-on with the main attraction at yesterday’s event, the Galaxy Z Fold 2.
