The Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge could soon be available for U.S. carrier models as T-Mobile is currently testing the software for those devices, as indicated by the carrier’s recent update of its software update page.
The carrier testing phase is typically the last step before an Android update is pushed to the public. The updates should hit handsets wirelessly once they are available.
Unlocked Galaxy S7 models have already received the Android Nougat update in several markets. So far there is no word on whether the other major U.S. carriers, Verizon, AT&T and Sprint are testing Android 7.0 Nougat. However, Verizon did confirm in December that its Galaxy S7 models would update in early 2017.
The Android Nougat update includes various features, such as interface and performance tweaks, improvements to notifications, quick settings, multiwindow and the always-on display features and upgrades to speeds for storage usage, app installation and system updates.
Samsung announced in December that Galaxy S7 models would update to Android 7.1.1; however, they have so far received the original Android 7.0 software. Google is currently sending Android 7.1.2 beta software to its own branded devices. There is no word on whether Samsung will run Android 7.1.2 on any of its devices. The most likely candidates are the upcoming Galaxy Tab S3 and Galaxy S8, which are expected to launch in February and March respectively.
