First Apple Car to Be Fully Autonomous and Designed to Operate Without a Driver

The first Apple Car that's released will not be designed to operate with a driver, according to a report from CNBC that cites multiple unnamed sources with knowledge of Apple's plans. "These will be autonomous, electric vehicles designed to operate without a driver and focused on the last mile," said one of the people. CNBC speculates that the initial Apple Cars could be designed for food delivery operations and firms that incorporate robotaxis. Alexa will soon be able to perform autonomous actions based on hunches

In a cheerful video, Amazon has just announced that, if you let them, their Echo products will now take control of your smart home appliances and activate them autonomously, based on their hunches regarding your real wishes. The video gives an example of automatically turning the heat down when you forgot to do it yourself or turning the lights off at night, and also suggests rather worryingly activating your home-cleaning robots. As mentioned earlier, Amazon has had the ability to suggest actions based on “hunches” since 2018, but it is only now, with the latest update, that it will take action autonomously. The new actions should start rolling out now […]

Self-driving cars: Autonomous driving levels explained

Autonomous driving is a term we're slowly becoming accustomed to, along with electric and hybrid power, as the vehicles of the future take over the roads. We're still a fair way off completely driverless cars, but the technology that makes driving that little bit easier - and safer - is appearing in cars up and down the highways. But you may have noticed there are different levels of autonomous driving, from 0 to 5. But what do they actually mean? Allow us to explain. Who sets out these autonomous vehicle levels? SAE International (Society of Automotive Engineers) published the classification system for the six different autonomy levels in 2014, which […]
