Windows 11 Will Play Notifications, Calls, and More from Your Android Phone

Earlier this year, Microsoft teased a big update to its Phone Link app that made texting easier from a PC, and we suggested it was part of a bigger update coming soon. Well, it looks like we were right, as now the company is getting ready to let our Android phones stream all audio to PCs. Oddly enough, Microsoft is again renaming the app, as it’s now listed in the Google Play Store as “Link to Windows.” Previously known as Your Phone, then Phone Link, but the new name makes more sense. New name aside, according to WindowsLatest, the updated Link to Windows app from Microsoft will soon be able...

Tesla and Zoom Think You Want Work Calls in Your Car

Considering how often drivers yell angrily at other drivers they know can’t hear them in traffic, a vehicle may not be the best place to conduct a work meeting. Nevertheless, Tesla vehicles will soon allow drivers to participate in video conferencing in their cars, without having to use a mobile device. A brief demo appears to show a Tesla Model Y driver getting a passive-aggressive text from her boss that says, “Have time for quick sync later? Want to get your feedback. :).” And then this poor woman proceeds to hop on a Zoom videocall while charging the vehicle. It’s the stuff dreams are made of. While details of how...

Google is working on ‘clear calling’ for Android phone calls

Android call quality is progressing.Illustration by Alex Castro / The Verge The first beta for the Android 13 quarterly release includes a new “clear calling” feature that “reduces background noises during calls.” It was first spotted by Mishaal Rahman on Twitter who also tweeted directions to enable it for yourself without root, if you’re feeling bold. The images shared by Rahman note that Clear Calling works “on most mobile networks,” is “not available for Wi-Fi calling,” and “content from your call is not sent to Google.” Google has been flexing its noise-canceling muscles (and custom six-core audio chips) for awhile. First, and most impressively, by using AI to suppress background...

Using headphones for Google Meet calls? New update makes it lot easier

When you attend an important office meeting on Google Meet, you want nothing to interrupt it. For clarity and isolation, headphones are mostly preferred, but there was a problem with Google Meet when you used USB headphones. The virtual meeting platform did not understand headphone controls, forcing you to inevitably reach out for the mouse to mute or unmute yourself. That has changed. Google has rolled out a new update to Meet that lets you toggle between mute and unmute using headphones, speakers, or other USB audio devices. The new Google Meet USB functionality recognises any USB peripherals and immediately supports its controls. That means when you press the mute/unmute...

How to use Mic Modes in VOIP and FaceTime Calls

Source: Aryan Suren for Pocketnow Last year’s set of software updates for Apple devices, which included iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and macOS Monterey, brought around a lot of interesting features to respective lines of consumer devices. One of these, which I’ve found myself using every day, is Mic Modes. I believe this feature can significantly improve the calling experience for you and the receiver if FaceTime or any other VOIP service is making the call. It’s simple to use with just a two-click system to activate it, and the impact I’ve noticed it make is commendable! Thus this guide will go over the steps you need to follow to activate...
