FIFA 23 review: A fond farewell to FIFA

It’s the end of an era. After a 29-year run, FIFA 23 is the last EA football game to don the FIFA name, with the series to be rebranded EA Sports FC going forward. We also suspect it’s the last to be released for last generation consoles, considering how little seems to have changed for those machines year-on-year. And, to be honest, you’d be hard pressed to find that many enhancements to even the current gen versions, as this very much marks the end of the FIFA reign. EA’s best new features are surely earmarked for 2024. So, does FIFA 23 still offer enough to appeal beyond its hardcore fanbase

EA Begins FIFA 22 Crossplay Tests on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Stadia

In an age where many multiplayer titles are making crossplay a key part of their strategy, one of the biggest sports games in the world is doing just the same. Forgoing the reluctance that has been evident in the past, EA Sports is now moving ahead to implement a limited rollout of crossplay for FIFA 22, which is great considering that it is one of this month’s free PlayStation Plus titles. As detailed in the latest Pitch Notes from EA, players can give the crossplay functionality a whirl in both Online Seasons and Online Friendlies on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Stadia. In a bid to reduce any

FIFA 22 cross-play now available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Stadia players only

EA has introduced cross-play support to FIFA 22 as part of a test. However, there are several caveats to its use. To begin with, only players on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Google Stadia can take part in the test. And, it only applies to Online Seasons and Online Friendlies – not Ultimate Team matches. Still, it’s a feature that has been requested for many years and, while it excludes PC, PS4 and Xbox One owners, at least some on different platforms can now play against each other. You can opt in and out from cross-play by hitting the R2 button on the main menu screen and press the button

FIFA 21 Review – Parking the Bus

FIFA 21 on PlayStation 4 With PES taking 2020 off to focus on a move to Unreal Engine in 2021, FIFA 21 is a great chance for EA Sports to take advantage and cement their position as the best soccer game around. For the most part, FIFA 20 was a frustrating experience, so the end of one generation and start of another is the perfect time for FIFA to see an improvement across the board. However, as has been the case for the last few years too, FIFA 21 only inches the series forward with a few small improvements, while other long term issues remain unaddressed. FIFA 20’s biggest issues

Review: FIFA 21 is a slight improvement over past titles

FIFA 21 is here with some big improvements. When it comes to the yearly FIFA video game franchise, many fans are convinced that recent releases are just more of the same. FIFA 20’s release wasn’t awful but was filled with complaints that many core modes felt much too similar to really feel new. Thankfully, EA Sports seems to have listened, as FIFA 21 – the latest entry in the long-running soccer franchise – adds improvements in some of the games core modes, making this entry feel much fresher than in years past, and one of the best sports games on the market. Goal! FIFA 21 Bottom line: After years of
