A massive leak from Front Page Tech purports to show the Pixel Fold’s final design, plus some basic specs and pricing. It seems that this device, which has been the subject of rumors for three-ish years, could potentially launch in May of 2022.
According to Front Page Tech, a number of “impossibly sneaky sources” provided the information in this leak. To obscure the identities of these sources, Front Page Tech isn’t sharing Google’s official Pixel Fold images—the photos in this article are recreations of those images, though.
If these renders are accurate, the Pixel Fold will inherit the “Robocop camera visor” from the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7. Otherwise, it looks strikingly similar to Oppo’s Find N foldable. The outer display has a beveled black border, while the inner screen is quite wide (as opposed to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, which has a relatively tall inner screen).
Today’s leak indicates that the Pixel Fold will use a side-mounted fingerprint reader, which makes more sense than an under-display sensor. It supports 5G, and is supposedly quite heavy.
Also, judging by the render, Pixel Fold offers a triple-camera setup with wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto lenses. These cameras could be identical to that of the Pixel 7 Pro—unless Google copies Samsung’s game plan and shoves a bunch of downgraded cameras in its foldable, I guess.
But how much will it cost? Well, Front Page Tech says that the Pixel Fold will run for an eye-popping $1,799. I’d expect Google to aim a little lower, but $1,799 still isn’t much of a surprise. After all, that’s the same price you’d pay for a Galaxy Z Fold 4.
Now, I’ve reported Pixel Fold leaks since 2019 or 2020. And, from experience, I suggest taking today’s leak with a grain of salt. There’s no point in getting your hopes up for something that may never launch. Even if today’s leak is accurate, Google could scrap the project (or push the launch date to 2024 for continued development).
