The PS5 DualSense Might Be Able To Create Unique Possitibilites With Music In Games

The PS5 DualSense controller already has a laundry list of interesting features it can take advantage of. However, we may have just discovered that the PS5 DualSense will be able to create unique possibilities and ways of implementing and utilising music in games.

On the latest episode of former IGN Editor Alanah Pierce‘s podcast Play, Watch, Listen, composer Austin Wintory talked about some of the possibilities of next-gen when it comes to audio and the idea that the PS5’s Tempest 3D Audio Engine will allow developers to have multiple sound files of one thing. Austin uses the idea Sony brought up at their March tech event of having multiple different sound files for raindrops, to give a rainstorm a unique feeling.

Mike Bithell, creator of the recently released John Wick Hex on PS4, then chimes in with a vague and mysterious comment to Austin saying that he is “Gonna love what they’re doing with the controller and the PS5, the DualSense stuff.” He then mentions the controller’s haptic feedback functionality before stopping himself and finally bringing up that he has seen some demos on these features.

This doesn’t reveal too much about what exactly the DualSense is capable of when it comes to music and how it utilises haptic feedback, probably because the information is still under NDA and likely to be revealed at PlayStation’s PS5 reveal event which is rumoured to take place in early June.

The video below will show you the four-minute segment from the podcast, which focused on the possibilities of the DualSense controller and teased how that would interact with audio and music in next-generation games:

Recently, the PS5 DualSense’s price leaked online and suggests that despite the technological advancements, consumers won’t have to pay any more for a controller than they do right now on PS4. On top of that, a new patent suggests that the controller will have a fingerprint sensor, a feature that hasn’t been announced by Sony as of now.

The PS5 DualSense controller and the PS5 are both scheduled to launch his Holiday.
