3 Ways To Check Version Number Of Apps & Programs In Windows 10

 

When you want to troubleshoot an installed program or want to send feedback on an app installed from the Store, you might want to know the version of the app/program.

The following are the three easy methods to know the version number of apps installed from Store as well classic programs installed outside the Store.

Method 1 of 3

Check version number of apps & programs in Settings

Step 1: Open the Settings app. Go to Apps > Apps & features page to see all installed apps and programs on your PC. The list includes both apps installed from the Store and classic programs installed from the web.

Step 2: To view the version number of classic desktop programs, perform click on its entry.

You need to perform one more step to view the version number of apps installed from Store.

Perform a click on the app’s entry and then click Advanced options link. Note that Advanced options link doesn’t show up for classic desktop programs.

Step 3: In the Specifications section, you can see the apps currently installed version number on your PC.

Method 2 of 3

Check version number of classic desktop programs in Control Panel

In addition to the Settings app, the classic Control Panel also displays the version number of installed programs. Note that the Control Panel doesn’t list apps installed from the Store. Here is how to check it.

Step 1: Type appwiz.cpl in the Start/taskbar search box and hit the Enter key.

Step 2: The Programs and Features window displays a lot of information on the installed programs. Here, you can view, installed date, disk space used by the program, version number, and more.

The Version column displays the version number of the installed program. If the Version column is absent, right-click on the Name, select More, and then select the Version checkbox. Click OK.

Know version number of desktop programs and apps

Many of the classic desktop programs and very few apps installed from the Store offer a provision to check the version number from within the program.

For desktop programs, you can navigate to the Help menu and then click the Check for update, About or similar option to know the version number of the program.

Coming to apps, you might find the version number under app’s settings. Windows 10 Mail, Photos, Calculator and several other programs display version number under their settings. If there is a menu within the app, click on it and then look for the About option.
