'MLB The Show 17' Franchise Mode: New Franchise Mode Offers New ‘Critical Situations’ And ‘Quick Manage’ Playstyles

One of the highlights of the MLB The Show has always been its Franchise Mode. Many sports gamers enjoy playing Franchise Modes (including 2K’s myGM, and EA Sports’ NHL 17’s Be A GM, etc.) in order to rebuild their favorite teams to their own vision. The Show’s Franchise Mode has gotten better over the last few years as it’s become more streamlined and easier to navigate through. It is the benchmark of Franchise Modes.

For MLB The Show 17, Franchise Mode returns with a few changes to the mode. While more details about the mode will be released in the coming weeks prior to the game’s release, there are two aspects about Franchise Mode in MLB The Show 17 that Sony has shared. The first big change is Critical Situations. Similar to how Madden gives you the option to play only the important moments of your game, MLB The Show 17 will give players the same option.

Instead of playing entire games, Critical Situations makes players respond to only play game-changing moments. For example, moments like a late game pitching change with the bases loaded, two on and two out in the bottom of the ninth inning, or even something small like getting your pitcher to induce a double play early in the game. This addition will give players who may not have the time to complete an entire game to participate in games as opposed to just simulating games.

Another addition for Franchise Mode in MLB The Show 17 is Quick Manage. Instead of playing full game, MLB The Show 17’s Quick Manage option gives players the opportunity to manage your team during a game. Now you will be able to jump between gameplay and the managerial aspect of the game. This is another example of, not just Sony, but game companies understanding that sports games take time to play. Giving players options as to different ways to complete a game will not only keep fans happy, but also have more games completed by users instead of CPU simulated games.

As mentioned earlier, this is the tip of the iceberg in regards to MLB The Show 17’s Franchise Mode. More will be announced, but with these features, along with the ability to select which jobs you want to handle (GM duties, player development, etc.), the possibilities are endless in regards to what you can do with your particular Franchise.
