Microsoft Edge browser was designed with the motive to make the browser fully compatible with modern day web. It has some easy tools to preview, save tabs or quickly find, manage and open tabs you set aside, without leaving a page. That said, there’s a new capability added in the form of a new ‘Line focus’ feature. It helps a reader stay focused while reading something by highlighting lines.
This habit is particularly useful if, you are noting some key points or pivots in arguments. Line Focus for the Reading View in the Edge browser has been rolled out for this purpose.
Line Focus for Reading View in Edge browser
To access this feature, open a suitable webpage in your Edge browser.
Just adjacent to the web address in the web address field, you will find ‘Reading View’ icon. If it is disabled by default, try enabling the feature by pressing Ctrl+Shift+R in combination.
When enabled, the ‘Reading View’ icon will turn blue from grey.
Now, click/tap on an empty area of the web page and from the options displayed in the bar, select ‘Learning tools’.
Once done, choose ‘Reading Preferences’ options as the one shown in the screenshot below and enable the ‘Line Focus’ feature.
Click on the one, three or five-line bar button to highlight sets of one, three, or five lines while reading the write-up.
Similarly, if you would like to disable the feature, simply slide the button to the other side. The Line Focus feature in the reading view of the Edge browser will be instantly disabled.
If you are not aware, you can make Microsoft Edge read the contents of a PDF, EPUB file, or a web page using the built-in Read Aloud feature of the browser.
Also, there is a new consent box for saving ‘Auto-fill’ data. It signifies that Microsoft Edge will seek the user’s permission every time to save passwords and card details for ‘Autofill’ purposes.
