Top Hidden Secrets about Keyword Research in 2017

August 5, 2020 by Martin6

Choosing Suitable Keyword is an Art… And smartly choosing search term is a Master Art! It’s not a secret that keyword research is the most important part of any SEO campaign, And it’s also not a secret that Google Keyword Planner is the only popular tool for keyword research. Even your competitors are using it, for the same keywords. ?

How about going off the beaten track?

Today I am going to uncover the hidden opportunities (high volume and profitable keywords) that your competitors probably don’t know about it. Let’s just put the keyword planner aside and head over to the first technique.

  1. Quora

Quora is the only exceptionally popular Questions and Answers site which is also the 140th biggest site in terms of visitor volume. You can call it a “holy grail of keyword Research”.

If you are not familiar with it, let me tell you that it’s somewhat similar to yahoo answers. The only difference is that quora answers are actually more helpful.

When you search a keyword in quora, it shows the most popular questions related to it. In other words, it will show you the things in which people are actually interested.

How?

Let’s move to Quora.com.

Suppose your keyword is “mascara”. Search your keyword in quora search bar.

You can see a number of popular questions and answers related to “mascara”.

All the above highlighted-questions are potentially strong long tailed keywords in itself.

Isn’t it’s fantabulous?

Some of these questions will be the potential long tail keywords for you which are mostly searched on google while others will help you in generating new ideas related to your niche.

When I searched above question on Google keyword Planner, I don’t find any searches for it.

But I do find some great keywords ideas from suggestions..

In short, you will find good keyword ideas from quora, indeed. You can also read the threads to see if there are any follow-up questions.

  1. Searches Related to

It is one of the simplest way and the best place to find awesome keyword ideas. These type of keywords can be commercial, non-commercial, informational or product based.

When you search something on Google, did you ever notice a small section at the bottom of Google search results called “Searches related to..”?

I guess most of you didn’t!

It looks something like this..

Actually, it’s Google’s way to show your keywords related to what you have put in.

Suppose you are searching for “glasses for round face”

Scroll down to the bottom of the page. You will see a small segment..

Bravo! You found the goldfield.

In this case, I have found 4 keywords(highlighted) that are quite relevant to my keyword.

Google keyword planner will NEVER show you the keywords like this for your seed keyword.

You will be happy to see that most of these keywords are the long tail keywords that might have less competition.

Isn’t it amazing?

  1. Wikipedia

Wikipedia is one of the most under-practiced resource for keyword research. You will be amazed to know that it’s actually the richest place for both, searching awesome topics as well as just for new keywords.

Sounds compelling?

Let’s first generate keyword topics that are generally not aimed in Google keyword planner.

Go to the Wikipedia and enter a broad keyword.

Head over to its content segment. You will see a column of content for your keyword like this.

That’s it!

Each of the contents is the seed keywords that you can put individually into the planner to generate new keywords.

In this example, when I put few of these keywords in the planner,I found some of the following incredible long tail keywords:

  1. basketball dribbling training equipment
  2. basketball fouls and violations hand signals
  3. blocking foul basketball rule
  4. blocking foul in basketball definition
  5. women’s basketball rebounding drills
  6. professional basketball leagues usa

Another way is using SEMrush with Wikipedia for keyword research.

You just need to copy the Wikipedia URL of your keyword and put it into SEMrush. Choose organic research from the drop down menu and search.

You will land on a page that contains keywords with their organic search positions.

Woah! This page ranks for 101 keywords (treasure for an SEO ? )

Now export the data and filter it according to your needs.

Easy, right?

  1. Forums

The beauty of forums is that you can easily find the most exclusive keywords on which nobody else is paying attention. It’s a majestic place where your target audience hangs out and has discussion 24/7.

The words and phrases that people use in their problems are exactly the same types of keywords they use to Google.

In order to use forums, you need to search it and look at the threads that people have started.

If you don’t know forums related to your keyword, use search strings like this..

“Keyword” + “forums”

Suppose my keyword is fitness.

You will see a number of forums. Choose anyone.

You can see some subcategories related to your niche (fitness, in this case), like this..

You can open any subcategory. In this case, I have chosen “workout equipment”.

You will see some of the popular threads containing the ultimate collection of keywords/phrases.

Some of these will be keywords in itself and others will help in brainstorming some fantastic keyword ideas.

I found 5 direct keywords that I can’t find in planner for the keyword “fitness”

  1. Shoulder exercises
  2. Strength goals
  3. Squats & deadlifts
  4. Overtraining
  5. Workout volume

You can either use it directly or suffix/prefix it suitably with the help of “searches related to” and Google Keyword Planner.

The leftover keywords can be also used to generate new ideas.

Believe me, you will end up with a goldmine of keywords.

Three cheers!

  1. UberSuggest

UberSuggest (redirected from ubersuggest.org to ubersuggest.io)is one of the quickest tools to find new keywords. You can unearth thousands of PPC and SEO friendly keywords in no time with a single click.

You will get a complete list of combinations of your seed keyword with other words, sorted in an alphabetical and numerical order.

What you have to do is:

  1. Enter your seed keyword.
  2. Select your source from a drop down on the left (Web, Images, Shopping, YouTube, and News).
  3. Choose language/country from a drop down on the right.

It will look like this..

All set!

Now, here you go with the magical list of keywords..

You will see a “blue down arrow” button before every keyword.

Just click on it. It will expand like this..

The first option will take you to the Google SERP of your seed keyword.

The second option will show you the google trend data of your keyword

And the third and the Most Important option will give you further suggestions for the keyword.

In this example, you can see many suggestions regarding my sub-keyword “badminton shuttlecock”

You can expand all the keywords individually to get a new bundle of suggestions.

You can also download your favorite keywords by clicking “Download all” option. (thus, minimizing the boring time of copy/paste ? )

Call it a powerful keyword machine to generate tremendous suggestions!

  1. Twitter Chats

One of my all time favorite technique to originate new ideas is to head over to twitter chats.

When people want to discuss a topic on twitter, they include a specific hashtag in it. Other people search for the hashtags and interact further.

What you have to do is, simply search your keyword with a hashtag on twitter.

Let’s say, my keyword is “content marketing”.

You will see all the popular tweets related to your hashtagged keyword.

I have highlighted some of the direct keywords that I found in above tweets. I m sure that I won’t get them in GKP just by searching “content marketing”.

The main idea behind this technique is to observe these chats and collect useful keywords. The technique is similar to forums where you find keywords from the real conversation of people. It will introduce you with the keywords and phrases that people are actually using while searching things related to your niche.

  1. Keywordtool.io

Keywordtool.io is an online keyword research tool that is loaded with thousands of long tail keywords. It uses Google’s auto complete feature to generate the keywords.

Simply put your keyword and choose any of the filter (Google, Youtube, Bing, Amazon and App store). Select language and Google domains from the drop down lists.

Within a second, you will see hundreds (maximum 750) of keyword related to your seed keyword.

It’s pretty much fast guys!

You can also explore some of the great questions related to your niche, as you can have a look at below:

It supports 83 different languages and 194 Google domains. You can also copy all the keywords to the clipboard.

Its API version has a lot more features and shows thousands of keyword for Google, Bing, Youtube, Amazon and App Store.

Got surprised?

  1. Keyword.io

And the last great tool in my list is Keyword.io.

It allows you to get keywords in the long tail and alphabetical order. Simply put your seed keyword and choose the country.

Don’t forget to choose the required source..

You will see a combination of single, long tail and in question form keywords like this.

Enjoy the directory full of keywords!

It’s very important to understand that keyword research is not just about putting a keyword in Google Keyword Planner and downloading the results.

It’s a lot more than that. It’s about aiming at right keywords that can get targeted traffic faster with less effort.

The above 8 strategies might need some practice but will ultimately help you in finding the right, less competitive and high potential keywords that can put your business on success track.

Did you find some other great strategies that you want to share? What are the exciting ideas that you are using for keyword research?
