We remember the tragic-comic comeback of the RTX 2060, at the peak of the shortage in January this year, well before Nvidia launched its RTX 3060. Since then, that Turing card comeback has fizzled out as Nvidia has said that they’re going to put the kibosh on the availability of Ampere cards…
The RTX 2060 never dies…
Yet, according to Videocardz sources, Nvidia is reportedly planning to re-launch an RTX 2060 but with 12GB of GDDR6. A model known internally as PG161 which would use the same GPU TU106-300, but would be affixed a suffix KX not to get (too) tangled. So we would be on a good old RTX 2060 with a doubled ram to offer a quick facelift… A priori, this new return could be done before the end of the year (or January 2021). But if what is only a rumor for the moment, is confirmed, then it is a news that announces more gloomy outlook for the next few months on the graphics card market.
The RTX 2060 12GB for PCs weaned on GTX?
According to our colleague, Nvidia would have decided this return to anticipate the shortages on the Ampere family that will therefore continue. For our part, while warning once again on the hypothetical side of this information, we place our gaze on the GTX range that has almost disappeared from circulation for months. If we were to be a little optimistic, we could say that Nvidia has not yet solved the problem of a return of the cards to a “normal” price (at least the launch price). The return of this dappled RTX 2060, which uses an older manufacturing process, TSMC’s 12nm, could be an attempt to feed the market of graphics cards for tighter budgets… We will obviously keep you updated on this rumor very soon.
