Notepad is Finally Getting some Improvements

A few improvements have made their appearance in Windows 10 Insider Build 17713, a preview version for the next feature release, making life a bit easier for those who still use it on daily basis.

Wrap-around find/replace

On top of a basic Find/Replace feature, you can now enable the Wrap around option in the Find dialog window to get a more accurate find/replace job. The new Notepad also remembers previously entered values and the state of checkboxes.

Even better, when you have text selected and open the find dialog the selected text will be automatically populated in the search field.

Zooming

Simply press and hold Ctrl key and scroll the mouse wheel up and down to zoom in and out the text in Notepad window.

You can also press Ctrl + Plus or Minus to do the same if you prefer keyboard shortcuts.

To reset to the default, use Ctrl + 0. This is going to be quite handy.

Line numbers

A long over-due feature is now finally fulfilled. The line and column number is now available and shown on the status bar at the bottom of the Notepad window. The status bar is on by default but can be turned off in the View menu if needed, though I can’t think of a reason why I want it to be off.

Search with Bing…

Notepad is Finally Getting some Improvements

This is probably not the first time it’s available in Notepad but certainly new since Windows 10 April Update doesn’t have it. Highlight the text you want to do a search, right-click on it and choose Search with Bing… or press Ctrl + E keyboard shortcut. It takes you to the Bing search page on your default browser.

New features added to the classic Notepad app are certainly welcomed but we need more.
