In May, Microsoft was announcing that they will pay better attention to the driver compatibility in Windows 10.
That was great news since the driver problems are one of the most important causes of errors and BSoDs.
A little bit later, Microsoft provided the solution to deliver the drivers which they, together with the manufacturers already tested and validated through optional updates in Windows 10.
It’s a filter that can, of course, contribute to eliminating any such problems but now, it seems like they silently have taken out one method of updating your driver, by using Device Manager.
What can I do if I can’t update the drivers in Device Manager?
Apparently, if you have a Windows 10 version 2004, build 19041.423 or older, you can’t look for a newer driver online using Device Manager.
Everything else looks similar but when you select the Update driver option from the Device Manager menu for a PC component, you will see two options, none on which is offering online help.
The first option, to Search automatically for drivers is only offering the option to search your computer for a driver. The other is to browse your computer for a driver if you already downloaded one.
This can be good or bad news, depending on how you look at it. It’s safer to have the correct driver instead of downloading a possibly unsafe or incompatible driver online.
It can also be a nuisance for users who got used to the process and are looking for improved drivers no matter what.

Well, there are a lot of means to update your drivers and you can’t cross Device Manager from the list just yet because it can still be a valid option to use after you downloaded the new driver.
