To efficiently manage any a successful deployment of Windows OS from end to end during an upgrade process in any organization, it is essential to provide required inputs to receiving equipment for monitoring. This helps in determining the company’s readiness to upgrade devices in the working environment. Microsoft offers the right tool for this purpose – Windows Analytics Upgrade Readiness.
If you run a business and planning to upgrade all the systems in your organization to the latest version of Windows, this post might interest you. Windows Analytics Upgrade Readiness is a special tool that is capable of generating telemetry data to gain useful insights for making recommendations about your company’s readiness to upgrade the devices to the latest version of Windows by adhering to the best practices.
Windows Analytics Upgrade Readiness
Before starting, ensure you have an Azure subscription and an OMS workspace.
If you have OMS Workspace, all you need to do is add the solution from Solutions Gallery. For this, click or tap on the ‘Solutions Gallery’ visible under Microsoft’s ‘Operations Management Suite (OMS)’ main screen. See the screenshot below.
Next, scroll to find ‘Upgrade Readiness’ tile, click it and then, hit the ‘Add’ button.
Later, click on ‘Upgrade Readiness’ tile and complete its set up. You can refer ‘Setting up Windows Analytics’ guide for step by step instructions on enabling telemetry collection from your client machines and sharing data with Upgrade Readiness.
When done, access ‘Solution Settings’ to readily display Upgrade Readiness Dashboard.
Here, you can get a high-level overview of all the computers associated with your organization’s workspace along with the devices that were recently upgraded to the targeted operating system. See the image below.
Once, you have the list of systems upgraded; you can access a comprehensive inventory (manufacturers, model no, issues found) of each of the computers in the network. If any compatibility issue occurs, Upgrade Readiness specific insights as well as guidance regarding the course of action that you can follow to resolve the issue quickly. Since the insights come straight from Microsoft, you can easily rely on them.
Once you have resolved all the compatibility issues on a computer and all apps and drivers are marked ready for an upgrade, all systems are deemed ‘eligible for upgrade’. You can then upgrade all the systems in a single go or groups/batches by exporting the list of eligible devices to Microsoft Excel.
Finally, when you are ready, import the Excel file into your software deployment system or System Configuration Manager to complete the upgrade process.
