WhatsApp ends support for Windows Phone 8 and BlackBerry OS this year

WhatsApp has announced that the software is officially ending its support for Windows Phone 8. Last year, the Facebook owned company unveiled that they will no longer support Windows Phone 7 operating system, iOS 6, and Android 2.1 and 2.2. The company extended their support for some of the versions up to June 30, 2017. Now, the time has come that the company has to end support for some more obsolete versions of Windows, Android, iOS and BlackBerry.

WhatsApp is officially quitting Windows Phone 8. So all the users who are still stuck to Windows Phone 8 must update their device or purchase a new handset in order to enjoy WhatsApp. The company will discontinue availability for Nokia Symbian S60 users from June 30, 2017. However, it has significantly extended its support for those with Nokia S40 devices by 18 months. The users will now be able to continue using the service until December 31, 2018.

WhatsApp has been kind to both BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 devices and have given them an extension. So the support will remain working on those devices until December 31, 2017. As for Windows Phone 8, the support will end by the end of this year.

The end of the year will also bring the end of support for Windows Phone 8.0, but Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 10 Mobile devices will continue to be supported beyond that date.

WhatsApp is really generous with Android users as they will have great liberty in enjoying the app for extended perios of time. WhatsApp says that it will continue to support Android 2.3.7 – which was released in September 2011 – until February 1, 2020.
