You can view Office documents for free on iOS, but to edit the documents on Office for iOS you need to be a Microsoft account and an Office 365 subscription for larger screen sizes.
Now Google has stepped with a solution for companies using Google Workspace.
The software suite now supports editing Office documents with the following extensions: .doc, .docx, .dot, .xls, .xlsx, .xlsm, .xlt, macro-enabled Excel files, .ppt, .pptx, .pps and .pot.
The feature is available on iPad, iPhones and also Macbooks and also supports collaborative features such as commenting.
In a blog, Google said, “Office editing will replace Quickoffice (sometimes known as Office Compatibility Mode), which has more limited functionality and collaboration capabilities.”
The improvement should make it easier for Google Workspace users to interoperate with the rest of the world, which has standardized on Microsoft Office.
The feature is available for users of Google Workplace Essentials, Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus as well as G Suite Basic, Business, Education, Enterprise for Education, and Nonprofits customers as well as personal Google accounts.
