Z590 OC Formula : ASRock is back to extreme overclocking !

A few years ago, ASRock offered a series of motherboards focused on overclocking. Of course, we’re talking about the OC Formula which ceased to exist on mainstream sockets after the Z170. With the 11th generation Core i, the brand is back to the OC Extreme by offering a Z590 OC Formula. A card perfectly adapted to take nitrogen at all costs!

With its new card, ASRock offers us a reference purely cut for overclocking. The latter displays features dedicated to the practice with, in particular, the OC Button. These will allow to activate the slow mode or the LN2Mode. Similarly, we have dipswitches for the activation of certain PCIe ports or “Rapid OC” buttons labeled “+” and “-“. Finally, there are three profile buttons “1”, “2” and “3” in addition to the classic “power” and “reset”.

With this, we can count on a solid power supply for the CPU. The latter benefits from 16 power supply phases with 90A SPS (Smart Power Stage). Likewise, there are two EPS12V connectors to supply the 11th generation Intel CPU. The cooling of all this part will be done via imposing aluminum heatsinks. But this cooling will be done in an active way, three fans will blow on it!

The PCB part is not left out either since it is server class with its 12 layers. The goal is to guarantee the integrity of the electrical signal in order to improve performance… At least, to push the CPU a little further. The same goes for the memory where the two DDR4 slots benefit from an SMD integration (surface mount). Once again, the objective is to limit signal loss, improve stability with high frequencies and maximize the overclocking potential.

What about the connectors?

In addition to its positioning very focused on the OC, ASRock offers us a card with a well-stocked connectivity. This backside displays three PCIe x16 ports, two of which are 4.0 standard. With three cards plugged on it, these will work as follows: x8 4.0 / x8 4.0 / x4 3.0. Of course, to take advantage of this new standard, you will need a Core ix 11000, otherwise everything will run on PCIe 3.0. Of course, we do not forget to specify that two PCIe x1 close the march.

At the memory level, we find two DIMM slots in DDR4. These will be able to hold up to 64 GB of RAM, all clocked at 5600 MHz (with a Gen 11 CPU).

In terms of storage, this card is also well equipped. We have eight SATA IIIs at our disposal. For the M.2, there are three slots, but only one will run on PCIe 4.0 x4. The other two will be satisfied with PCIe 3.0 x4.

Finally, we end with the LAN part which displays two Ethernet ports that will be managed by two Intel I225V and I219V chips. A WiFi part is also present via an Intel 802.11ax module (WiFi 6E). Finally, the audio part has a Realtek ALC1220 chip coupled with a DAC ESS SABRE9218.

For the moment, we do not know the price and when we see the piece, we think that it is not worse. Very clearly, this Z590 OC Formula will not be an Eco+ labeled card!
